Michael Tierno is an independent writer/director of feature films.
Auditions, his first film, premiered at the Tribeca Film Center’s First Look Film series, won 10 other awards on the festival circuit, and led to a job in development at Miramax Films, where he worked as a story analyst. Auditions was picked up by Bayview Entertainment and is now available on Netflix.
Tierno is also author of Aristotle’s Poetics for Screenwriters (Hyperion), which has sold 30,000 copies worldwide to date and is course adopted at many universities. He is currently an assistant professor of screenwriting and filmmaking at East Carolina University’s School of Cinematic Arts and Media Production, where he produced his second feature film Nocturne, a romantic story about classical music shot entirely on campus using students as cast and crew. Nocturne will premiere at the Breckenridge Film Festival in June 2011.
Other screenplays by Tierno include Exterior Night and Near Life Experience, both finalists in the Sundance Screenwriter’s Lab competition.
At the End of the Day was a quarterfinalist in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’s Nicholl Fellowship Awards screenplay competition.
